Today I bought my first bag of marijuana tea. This is legal in Thailand since a while ago. Thai people can grow marijuana plants in their backyard and use them freely, but it is not what you think.
On January 25th, 2022, cannabis lovers rejoiced as Thailand became the first country in the Asian region to decriminalize the plant. Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) will remain in control over extracts that contain over 0.2% by weight of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the psychoactive ingredient that causes people who use marijuana to get high. So, sorry you will not get high on legal marijuana. The current laws and regulations mean those who are caught smoking or possessing marijuana could serve a long jail time. Only for the use of marijuana in food and industrial products, and use for medical purposes.

People in Thailand will be allowed to grow “as many cannabis plants” as they like in their own homes from June 9, according to Thailand’s health minister and medical marijuana pioneer Anutin Charnvirakul. However… if you don’t read the fine print you can still get into trouble with the law. As usual, the fine print is confusing.
Bottom line, don’t be planting high-grade marijuana and smoking it in Thailand just yet. Hopefully, the situation will get clear on Jun 9.
