New rules/laws in Thailand

There have been many new rules and laws implemented recently in Thailand. Most of them will benefit you traveling to the country.

New rules/laws in Thailand

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to report that in the just-announced Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2022, Thailand was named No. 3 on the ‘Top Countries in the World’ list and Bangkok No. 4 on the ‘Best Cities in the World’ list, while many Thai islands, hotels, and resorts also placed highly on other ‘best of’ lists.

Mask mandate

Noone any longer needs to wear a mask but most Thais still do. The exceptions are cinemas and public transportation. Starting October 1st Thailand declares the Coronavirus as being endemic with low concern. The numbers of transmission are at a point similar to the normal flu.

Visa entry changes

Several changes will make it super easy to enter Thailand as a tourist. For most countries, this is what now is required: jump on the airplane, land in Thailand with your passport, and continue to anywhere you like inside the country. No insurance, no visa, no proof of vaccination, no hassle. Stay for 45 days and add another 30 days at the immigration office. No need to register upon arrival. Please contact the Thai embassy since the rules differ depending on what country you came from.

Gay marriage

Discussions are ongoing on how to change the law to allow gay marriages.

Drunk driving

One of the most common reasons for accidents in Thailand is drunk driving. Finally, there will be more severe punishment for this bad behavior. Not a day too late. The first offender may face a night in jail and a fine. The second time there will be jail time. Still too lean to make a huge difference but in the right direction.
